Abstract

706,377. Mixing appliances. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 17, 1952 [April 17, 1951], No. 9702/52. Class 86 An electric mixer of the household type comprises a base plate having a motor mounted on it driving a beater element which extends outwardly through the base plate, a casing forming the side and end walls of the mixer and a resilient heat insulating member disposed between, and secured to, the casing and base plate, the casing being provided with air ports in opposite walls and defining an air passageway between the walls and over and around the motor whereby cooling air may flow through the casing. A heat insulating member 19, Fig. 1, comprising a grommet formed of flexible material, preferably soft rubber or vinylite plastic, extends around a base plate 1 and is provided with a groove 19a which holds the base plate firmly in place. A casing 20 is mounted on a shoulder 19b in the grommet and is secured in position by screws. 39, 40, Fig. 6, which extend between the casing 20 and 'the base plate 1. The casing 20 includes detachable grill members 21, 22 forming the end walls. The motor 2 drives a fan 5 which causes air to flow through the grills 21, 22 and, to pass over and around the motor for cooling purposes. A pair of beater elements 14 are detachably secured to drive shafts 8 which carry worm wheels 7 engaging a worm 6 on the shaft of the motor 2, within a gear casing 9 formed integrally with the base plate 1.
