w. WEIMERS ELEGTRIQ DRIVE FOR DOMESTIC UTILITY DEVICES Filed Dec. 22, 1952 Patented Nov. 13, 1934 1,980,651 ELECTRIC DRIVE FOB DOIESTIC UTILITY DEVICES Wilhelm Weim Ber Germany, a-ign Siemens scltl l c'kertw ke Berlin-Siemenaatadt, of Germany Application necenibei- Germany 1 Claim.
. My invention relates to a device provided with an electric drive adapted to operate domestic utility devices such as cleaning brushes. agita-' tors for mixing drinks and the like;
The devices hitherto employed, deprived of a motor drive had to be operated manually. Re-
cently, devices have been developed which 'are operated by motive power. but such apparatus are either driven by a flexible shaft by means of a stationary electric motor or they are secured to a pivotaliy mounted bracket which is fastened to the wall or the like. The devices heretofore employed have, on the one hand, the drawback that they are relatively Mandy and do not possess a suflicient flexibility and, on the other hand, are very expensive and require a particular care and maintenance. The object of my invention is to provide amixer whereby the foregoing drawbacks are overcome. To this end, the attachment, for instance, an agitator is secured to the armature shaft of an electrlc motor mounted in a casing serving as handle. A particularly advantageous construction consists in not securing the agitating attachment directly to the armature shaft but to a shaft extension which is associated with the armature shaft by means of a clutch which slips as a result of too greata torque. Such a device has the advantage in that it is easily flexible and may be easily manipulated without causing any fatigue as long as it is in operation. Moreover, the cost of manufacture of such a device is also reduced to a mini- Germanyya 22, 1832, Serial No. December 22. 1981 Referring to the drawing, 1 denotes a casing consisting of insulating material which serves at the same time as handle.
An electric motor 2 which may be connected "to any suitable electric light socket by means of the cord 3 is securely mounted in the casing 1. Within the housing 1, a shaft member 5 is supported in axial alinement with the armature shaft of the motor 2 andconnected to the shaft by means of a sliding clutch 8 which begins to slip as soonas the torque of the shaft 5 exceeds a predetermined value. At the lower end of the shaft member 5 an agitator 7 is wound in a manher as disclosed in the drawing. Such an agitator has the advantage that it ma be readily used by the housewife for whisking eggs, mayonnaise etc. As compared to the appliances hitherto employed and operated by hand the electric agitator according to the invention enables to do the work in a rapid manner and, if desired, 4 the operation may be carried out for a long time without causing any fatigue. I
Instead of an agitator other domestic attachments may be mounted on the shaft member 5.
I claim as my invention:---
A device for electrically driving domestic utility devices, comprising a handle, an electric motor securely supported in said handle, a removable tip on said handle and an operating shaft adapted to carry a utility device at its outer end and being iournalled within said tip, and a slip clutch-between said operating shaft and the motor shaft, said clutch consisting of the motor shaft end, split for.a suitable length, and a,coup1ing sleeve fixed on the operating shaft and frictionally engaging the split motor shaft end, said sleeve being located within said handle tip and held thereby in en gagement with the motor shaft end.
