Class 86 A mixing machine 6 primarily for building materials has twin counter-rotating shafts 1 having adjustable mixing blades 3 and driven by a transverse shaft carrying worm gears 10 cf opposite hand. They inter-act with worm wheels 9 on shafts 8 coaxial with the mixer shafts which they drive through flexible couplings 7. A single electric motor 13 or internal combustion engine 14 may be provided, or separate motors coupled by the worm shaft. Cooling air may be blown on the worm gears. A hoist may be provided, operated by a winch incorporated in the driving mechanism.
