Abstract
705,772. Generating combustion products under pressure. ARMSTRONG SIDDELEY MOTORS, Ltd. Nov. 25, 1952 [Jan. 31, 1952], No. 2593/52. Class 51 (1). [Also in Group XI] A fuel burning means in the jet pipe of a gas turbine jet propulsion engine or a ram-jet has a flame stabilizer disposed therein to stabilize a pilot flame for igniting the main supply of fuel, and an ignition flame is carried to the interior of the stabilizer through a duct. The duct is supplied with fuel and gaseous fluid from the jet pipe and is provided with an ignition means disposed near the wall of the jet pipe. In Fig. 2, the flame stabilizer 11 is supported by struts, the strut 13 being hollow and receiving gaseous fluid from the jet pipe through the opening 24 in the leading edge, and fuel through the injector 23, the mixture being ignited by means of a sparking plug 22. The flame passes from the web or duct 13 through the aperture 26 to the stabilizer 11. A baffle 28 may be disposed between the opening 24 and the sparking plug 22. The stabilizer has swirl vanes 20 and may itself be fed with a pilot supply of fuel. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3, the gaseous fluid is introduced into the duct 13 through an L-shaped pipe 36, fuel supplied through a pipe 34 being vaporized therein. The ignition flame passes through a tube 32 to the interior of the flame stabilizer. Specifications 624,726, 659,859 and 674,641 are referred to.
