Abstract

862,767. Igniting burners. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Dec. 23, 1959 [Jan, 2, 1959], No. 43697/59. Class 75 (3). [Also in Group XII] A plurality of combustion chambers 3, Fig. 1, are ignited from a single igniter 6 which has a plurality of air holes 8 and a fuel nozzle 12, and which is connected to the chambers by flame tubes 17 having air injection apertures 19 to inject additional air into the tubes to assist burning and establish a smooth vortex flow. Spark ignition is preferably employed. A swirler 11 gives the air in the igniter a tangential swirl. The apertures 19 are preferably drilled tangetially to the tubes 17, Fig. 3 (not shown).
