705,507. Magnetic sound recording and reproducing apparatus. ILLINOIS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, ARMOUR RESEARCH FOUNDATION OF. Jan. 9, 1951, No. 616/51. Class 40 (2). A magnetic transducer head 10, Fig. 4, is mounted in a housing 32, 33 which has a soft iron keeper 37 adjacent the poles, so that if more than one sound track is recorded on the tape 30, the keeper prevents the track which is being recorded, reproduced or erased from influencing adjacent tracks. In a modification, Fig. 5, several recordings may be made on the tape 43 and keepers 44, 45 are provided on each side of the transducer and erasing heads 10, 38. The transducer head which forms the subject-matter of Specification 705,546 comprises two U-shaped members 21, 22, Fig. 3, between which are sandwiched two L-shaped members 25, 26 the short legs 27, 28 of which project towards each other to form the pole parts. An air or solder, non-magnetic gap 29 is provided between the pole parts. A high frequency bias winding, Fig. 1 (not shown), is wound around each of the pole parts in a reverse direction with respect to each other. The erasing head is similar to the transducer head but the non-magnetic gap is wider.
