Abstract
704,368. Vehicle frames. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. Oct. 31, 1951 [May. 18, 1949], No. 25489/51. Classes 79(3) and 79(4) In a vehicle frame having an X or fork shape formed by two longitudinal bearers of tubular cross section horn-like extensions are connected to the bearers at their ends in the vicinity of the vehicle axles, the extensions serving for supporting body parts or accessories. As shown the longitudinal bearers 10 are of hollow oval cross section, are bent at their mid lengths and connected by transverse members 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and plates 11, 12. Secured to the rear ends of the bearers 10 at an angle thereto in a vertical plane are the extensions 25 which are braced by a member 26. The member 26 carries a pivot 27 by which rear axle gearing is mounted, the forward end of the gearing being supported by brackets 28 secured to the bearers 10. Secured to the transverse member 17 are brackets 24 against which abut helical springs of swinging half axles. The transverse members 15, 16 are each formed of inner and outer tubes, the outer tube being secured to the bearers 10 and the inner tube being secured to the outer tube and carrying brackets 22 upon which the body is mounted. The plate 11 is bent downwardly to permit unobstructed passage of the propeller shaft 30 above the plate. Secured to the overhanging ends of the bearer 14 are brackets 21 for receiving the vehicle dashboard. Tubular pieces 18 are secured to the bearers 10 forward of the member 13, which serves for mounting the engine, the pieces 18 forming mountings for wheel suspension means.
