Class 117 Apparatus for sorting and separating bodies of various shapes and mobilities comprises an inclined plane whose lower end is horizontal or reversely inclined, and a reversely inclined plate spaced from the lower end of the first inclined plate. Mixed peas and beans pass'from a hopper 27, Fig. 1, on to an inclined plane 13 through a gate 29, Figs. 2, 4, the height of whose openings is adjustable by a bar 30 to allow but one pea or bean to pass an opening at a time. The spherical peas roll down the plane and acquire a velocity sufficient to carry them over the gap x, and up and over the brake plate 14 to fall into a hopper 25a. The non-circular beans fall through the gap x, either from plane 13 or after sliding back from the brake plate 14, into a hopper, or, as shown, on to another inclined plane for further separation. A series of such inclined planes is shown in Fig. 1, the non- spherical beans finally falling into a conduit 26a. The inclined planes 13 are adjustable about pivots 15 by slotted plate 16 and pin 17, Fig. 2, and the brake plates 14 are similarly adjustable.
