Abstract
930,410. Sampling ores &c. RHOANGLO MINE SERVICES Ltd. April 14, 1961 [April 21, 1960], No. 13482/61. Class 58. Apparatus for automatically sampling comminuted ores &e. discharged, as a falling stream, from a travelling conveyer belt 10 through a shoot 11, comprises a vertical circular plate 12 centrally secured to a horizontal shaft 13 rotated, through gears by a motor 17. Primary and secondary sampling scoops 21 and 22 are pivotally carried by the plate so that they are disposed vertically, with their open mouths uppermost, as it is rotated. The primary scoop 21 has a base 24 in the form of a swinging arcgate closing by gravity and two inclined side walls 25. The capacity and the size of the mouth of the scoop 21 can be varied by moving one of the walls 25. The secondary scoop 22 is in the form of an elongated cylinder having a closed base and an adjustable mouth and it can be detached from the plate 12. The scoop 21 passes through the falling stream and collects a primary sample and then passes over a hopper 27 having projections 28, which open the arc-gate and discharge the primary sample on to an upper travelling conveyer belt 26, from which it is discharged as a second falling stream. The scoop 22 passes through this stream and collects a secondary sample. The speeds of the plate 12 and belt 26 may be regulated, mutually, so that one primary sample is completely discharged from the belt before another is deposited thereon. A magnetic clutch and brake, controlled by time and trip switches (not shown), may be provided, in the drive from the motor 17, so that the plate 12 may be rotated intermittently.
