Class 135 A gate valve closure member comprises two discs 3, 4, Fig. 1, capable of relative movement to effect tight sealing with the body seats 2. In one arrangement, disc 4 has a spigot 8 loosely entering a bore 9 in disc 3 and welded thereto at 11. In a modification, a pin 12, Fig. 4, extends with clearance through aligned bores in both discs and is welded at each end to the discs. In another arrangement, the discs are joined integrally by a neck 21, Fig. 5. Lugs 7 may be formed on either or both discs for engaging the actuating stem 16 which has a rounded end 18 for urging the discs against the seats 2 when the valve is closed.
