703,481. Road traffic signs. FRANCOBRITISH ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd., and BRACKENSEY, A. H. Nov. 20, 1951 [Nov. 20, 1950], No. 28369/50. Class 3(2) [Also in Group XI] A unit for lighting a traffic sign comprises a flat casing 5 of trapezium form in plan view mounted so that it is substantially horizontal with one longitudinal side along which a discharge tube of the cold cathode type is mounted, directed to-- wards the sign, the discharge tube being covered by a window 7. The casing is bolted to two arms 3, 4 fixed to a post 1 which may carry the sign to be illuminated; a series of bolt holes in the arms allows the position of the casing to be changed. The operating voltage of the discharge tube is not greater than 600 volts. A transformer may be mounted in the casing or it may be supported on the post.
