492,597. Signs ; discharge lamps. SOC. ANON. FONCIERE INDUSTRIELLE & COMMERCIALE. March 17, 1937, No. 7867. Convention date, March 19, 1936. [Class 3 (ii)) [Also in Group XL] Characters formed by electric discharge or tubular incandescent lamps are supported magnetically on a panel and are illuminated immediately they are applied to the panel. In the embodiment shown, filament lamps T mounted on soft iron plates D, are supported on a panel comprising magnetized bars C connected in pairs to a current supply S, the ends of the lamp filaments being connected to contact blocks engaging the bars. Resistances may be provided in the bar circuits to permit adjustment of the lamp illumination. When discharge lamps are used, their electrodes are connected to the contact blocks through adjustable resistances. In another embodiment in which the characters are formed by discharge lamps and are supported by magnetized plates on a soft iron panel, the lamps are illuminated by the field produced by a high-frequency generator behind the panel. The lamps may consist of fluorescent glass. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also arrangements in which the lamps are supported by hooks, plug-andsocket, and other fastening means which also serve to conduct current to the lamps. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
