Abstract
703,052. Roll-neck bearings. MORGAN CONSTRUCTION CO. July 8, 1952, No. 17137/52. Class 12(1) A bearing for a roller comprises a block 14, Fig. 1, supporting a neck of the roller in a liner 18 which is held in position by bars 19, and a liner 45 dowelled and clamped to a shoe 44 which is held against the shaft by means of spring tensioned rods 57 and keys 60 passing therethrough. The liners may be of phenolic resin or other suitable non-metallic material. Each rod has a plate 64, Fig. 2, engaging its lower end, and springs 72 housed in blind pockets 55 in the block 14 press against each plate. Thrust rings 35, 36, Fig. 4, also of phenolic resin &c., engage a metal ring 23 which is keyed to the roll neck portion 21 and held against shoulder 22 by means of a nut 25 which surrounds an axially split ring 26 held in a groove 27 by a garter spring 29. The nut 25 is secured to the roll neck by a key 30 and a snap ring 31, the key engaging in one of a series of notches 33 in the nut. A spring pressed packing ring 39 excludes dirt from the bearing.
