Abstract

701,600. Hoppers. NIAGARA ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. April 24, 1952 [April 24, 1951], No. 9556/51. Class 78 (1) A hopper through which is adapted to be fed granular material is provided with agitating means comprising elements 8, 9 disposed transversely of the direction of material flow and mounted for reciprocation in the general direction of flow in proximity to one or more walls of the hopper, the elements 8, 9 being so shaped that less resistance is offered to passage against the flow of the material than when moving with the flow. As shown, the horizontally disposed elements 8, 9 interconnect two spaced pairs of vertically disposed members 7, to each pair of which is connected, via a lug 17, an arm 14 linked at its lower end to an associated pivot bar 19, the arms 14 and bars 19 being located exteriorly of the hopper. Each pivot bar 19 is pivotally connected at one end to one of two rocking beams 15 and at the other end to the corresponding extremity of the other beam 15, the beams 15 being pivoted on offset coaxial stubs 20 extending from the hopper body. A rotary shaft 25 is provided for driving through suitable cams both the agitating means and the fuel-feeding means 13 which may be of the kind described in Specifications 467,223 and 467,224. In another embodiment the agitating means are reciprocated by link members interconnecting the agitating means and the fuel-feeding means.
