Abstract

700,943. Fence-posts. WOLSELEY SHEEP SHEARING MACHINE CO., Ltd., and MACNAMARA, H. J. July 23, 1952 [July 24, 1951], No. 17456/51. Class 45 A rigid base 3 is rigidly secured above the lower, ground penetrating end 2 of a post 1, the base being adapted to rest upon the ground to support the post vertically and being provided with spike securing holes 4, the axis of each hole being directed at an acute angle to the axis of the post and the axes of an opposite pair of holes crossing each other. The post is welded to the base 3 which consists of a ring of sheet metal. The holes 4 are arranged so that spikes 6 may be positioned in a cross-over fashion to secure the post to the ground in conjunction with its pointed end 2 which protrudes from the bottom of the ring. Stay rods 8 are bolted to the post by means of U-shaped brackets 9, the brackets being prevented from riding up the post by a collar 14 on the post. A truncated cone with apertures. in the top and bottom for the spikes may be substituted for the ring.
