Abstract

772,874. (i) Plant supports. (ii) Ground anchors. MILLIGAN, H. A. P. June 2, 1955 [June 2, 1954], No. 16295/54. Classes 6(2) and 45. Means for supporting plants comprise metal anchoring members together with L-section metal strips formed with spaced holes whereby they may be secured together and to the anchoring members. As illustrated in Fig. 1, each anchoring member comprises a shank 1, an enlarged and pointed end 2 for driving into the ground, a collar 3 which rests on the ground surface when the anchoring member is in position, and a threaded pin 4 on which the L- section strips are secured. The supporting means may be assembled as shown in Fig. 3 in which strips 7 and 8 are secured horizontally between pairs of anchoring members 6 by passing the pins 4 of the anchoring members through holes in the strips and securing them in position by means of nuts threaded on the pins. Uprights 9 are bolted to the strips 7 above each anchoring member and further horizontal strips are bolted to the tops of the uprights, the construction being strengthened by means of struts 10. Strings 11, to which the plants to be supported may be tied, are stretched between the uprights 9 and are fastened to the uprights by means of the holes mentioned above. The arrangement of the anchoring members and L-section strips may be modified so as to provide supports suitable for rows of plants, single plants and bushes or trees.
