Abstract
700,896. Piezo-electric crystals. BRUSH DEVELOPMENT CO. April 9, 1952 [May 14, 1951; May 14, 1951], No. 9069/52. Class 40 (8) A piezo-electric element consists of a section cut from a single crystal of sorbitol hexa-acetate. As shown a section 11 can be cut with its major faces parallel to the Y axis of the crystal, and covered by electrodes. This section can be used in the thickness shear mode of vibration and, if the normal to the major surfaces lies in the a axis of the crystal, the temperature-frequency characteristic is flat over a wide range. The crystal section 11 can also be used in a face shear mode of oscillation. Sections, such as 11a, can also be cut from the crystal with their front surfaces normal to the Z axis of the crystal. The crystals may be used as stabilizers for oscillating circuits, transmission or reception transducers for waves along solid rods, or as transducers connected to a stylus working on a gramophone record.
