Abstract

Class 132(1) Amusement apparatus comprises a prism-shaped part mounted to be rotatable about a vertical axis, and having, on the inside of one or more of its faces, a portion rotatable about an axis perpendicular to the corresponding face. The prism-shaped part is supported on wheels 3 and has walls 6 with circular apertures closed by discs 7 mounted on horizontal axles 8 journalled in bearings 9 rigid in prism framework 10. Also mounted on axles 8 are barrels 11 on which are wound ropes 12. The prism-shaped part is. rotated by shaft 2 which carries a governor 13, the lower part 14 of which is secured to the shaft 2 and the upper bearing 19 of which is free to slide on the shaft 2. Levers 24 are pivoted to a bracket 22 secured to shaft 2 and are pivoted at one end to thebearing 19, and secured at the other end to the ropes 12 which are carried round pulleys from the drums 11, Fig. 1. Thus, as the bearing 19 is lowered when the governor weights fly out during rotation of shaft 2, the ropes 12 are pulled to rotate discs 7. In a modification one or more governors may be mounted outside the prism-shaped part and there may be one for each disc 7, Fig. 2 (not shown). In a further modification the governors may be dispensed with and the disc, Fig. 7, may have radial blades 33 which are caught by the air as the prism-shaped part rotates. In all examples counter weights.31 are provided to bring the discs 7 back to their original position and these may act as stops to engage fixed stops 32 to limit rotation of the discs. A fixed framework 34 supports tier 35 for spectators and tiers 36 may be provided on top of the rotary part.
