Abstract
<PICT:0700728/IV(a)/1> <PICT:0700728/IV(a)/2> A heating arrangement for a spinning-nozzle head comprises a body member detachably connected to a spinneret support and provided with a longitudinal duct having its side walls adapted for substantial alignment with the side walls of the spinneret, a hollow heating unit substantially centrally positioned in the duct, this heating unit having a bottom wall joined to the side walls and having a baffle positioned longitudinally therein with its lower end spaced from the bottom wall, means for circulating a hot fluid through the hollow heating unit, and means for introducing spinning-solution into a passageway surrounding at least a substantial portion of the heating unit. If desired, the longitudinal duct and the heating unit may be of circular or similar cross-section so that they each have a single continuous side wall. The apparatus may be used in dry or wet spinning operations and in particular in the extrusion of solutions of acrylonitrile polymers in hot concentrated aqueous solutions of sodium or calcium thiocyanate into aqueous coagulating liquids maintained at a temperature not exceeding +10 DEG C., e.g. -15 DEG to +5 DEG C. As shown in Fig. 1, the spinneret 10 is supported by a coupling 14 which is screwed on to the body member 12 of the spinning-head. A hollow heating-member 32 is supported within the duct 28 of member 12 by means of the screwed head 56. A baffle 38 extends longitudinally from the top of member 32 but its lower end 40 is spaced from the bottom wall 34. Heating fluid enters through conduit 44, passes down the member 32 and then under the baffle 38 and upwardly to the outlet conduit 46. Spinning solution enters the spinning head through conduit 48 and passes through the annular space between the heating member 32 and the inner wall of member 12 to the spinneret 10. An alternative arrangement for securing the heating-member 32 is shown in Fig. 4. p A threaded-member 62 is screwed into the coupling 64 so that the gasket 66 is pressed against the sides or continuous side of the member 32 which is thus held securely in the desired central position in the duct 28.
