Abstract
700,676. Printing-machines. GOEBEL AKT.-GES. March 6, 1950 [March 5, 1949], No. 5646/50. Classes 100 (1) and 100 (2) Drying-apparatus.-In a multi-unit intaglio or gravure web printing press the printing units are in one or more upper parts of a casing enclosing the entire web run from its entry into the first printing unit up to completion of the final printing, and rollers guide the web downwards after each printing into one or more drying chambers arranged in the lower part of the casing below the printing units. As shown, a separate drying chamber is arranged below each printing unit; the web 5, after passing brushes 15, enters the first drying chamber through a slot in its righthand wall, Fig. 1, passes upwards from a roller 16 through a slot in a horizontal wall 17, over rollers 18, 19, downwards through the printing couple 20, 21, and returns through another slot in the wall 17 to the drying chamber where it is guided past slotted air nozzles 22, Fig. 2, by rollers 23, 24, 25 and guide plates 27, 28 contacting its unprinted side, is then doubled back at roller 26, and finally passes over a roller 29, through a slot in the dividing wall, to the next drying chamber and printing unit in which it follows a similar path. Fumes are led to a solvent recovery plant from the drying chambers through connections located at the same level as the air supply pipe 56. Rotary machines; impression adjustments inking apparatus.-Each unit comprises an intaglio cylinder 20, Fig. 2, carried in journals 36 locked in vertical guides in the side frames, and an impression cylinder 21 carried in horizontally slidable end bearings and pressed against the cylinder 20 either by a system of levers or by a further cylinder 43 whose horizontally slidable end bearings are adjusted by a handwheel 44. The hinged hood 45 may be transparent, and instead of platforms 47, Fig. 1, being provided for access to the printing units with the side frames 7 and the drying chambers above floor level, the latter may penetrate the floor to the storey below. The inking duct 38, Fig. 2, is mounted on two spindles vertically adjustable by gears 41 turned by a handwheel ; the doctor blade 39 is axially oscillated by a lever connected to an eccentric geared to the main driving shaft; the horizontal wall 17 may be curved upwards along the web exit slot as shown to collect excess ink. Feeding webs.-A web supply roll 6, Fig. 1, has a brake disc 8 engaged by a band 9 spring- loaded at 10 and connected to a caliper arm 12 whose roller 13 bears on the roll periphery. The wind-up roll 33 rests on rollers 35 and its shaft is carried in vertically slidable bearings 34.
