Abstract
699,379. Impedance transformers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and JONES, D. D. Aug. 7, 1952 [Aug. 7, 1951], No. 18603/51. Class 40 (viii). An impedance transformer comprises a conductor 3 which lies between a pair of electric conducting surfaces 2, and a part 13, which slides between the surfaces 2 to vary the distributed capacity between conductor 3 and surfaces 2, and thus the characteristic impedance of the line formed by conductors 1 and 2. The electrical length of the latter may be an odd multiple of one quarter of the operating wavelength. The part 13 can be moved perpendicularly to conductor 3 by sliding the supporting rod 11 in its mounting. The latter is mounted in a carriage 9 which can slide along the line on rails 8 and adjust part 13 along the line. The part 13 may be a metal block making contact with surfaces 2 through spring fingers 14 or may be a dielectric block.
