Abstract

698,352. Protective arrangements. QENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and JONES, H. F. Jan. 8, 1952 [Jan. 26, I951], No. 2076/51. Class 38 (iv). A surge diverter of the multiple spark-gap type comprises a stack of metal discs 10 arranged in pairs which are separated by rings 11 of non-linear resistance material, the discs of each pair being provided with opposed protuberances 15 which form a spark-gap and the voltages across the several gaps being equalized by shunt resistors (non-linear or otherwise) 12, which may be in the form of either peripheral rings serving to space the discs of each pair, or pillars arranged between the peripheral portions of the two discs. Sparkgaps 14 may also be provided between adjacent pairs of discs. The several discs may have central protuberances 13, serving to centre the rings 11. The shunt resistors may be replaced by capacitors.
