697,561. Centrifugal pumps; stuffing-boxes. HOBDELL ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Dec. 21, 1951 [Aug. 8, 1951], No. 18702/51. Classes 110(i) and 122(v) The driving shaft of a high temperature, hot water pump is supported in two bearings arranged on the same side of the impeller a, the one f nearer the impeller being a ball or other bearing precluding axial movement, and the other g being a roller or other bearing allowing free axial movement. Between the bearings the shaft is encircled by a fixed housing i contacting the shaft at ports j, k near its ends and forming the inner wall of a water jacket m. The housing between parts j, k is packed with grease. Cooling water flows from the jacket through pipe q to a gland space r from which it is discharged over the gland by a pipe s and through an outlet cock.
