Class 38 (iii) [Also in Groups XIX and XXX] A drum a is fixed to the internal structure of an aircraft and an arm d, which revolves below the drum, is driven by a reversible electric motor c through gearing housed within the drum. A tube f carries a static head g for measuring air pressure away from the disturbances caused by the aircraft and extends from a pivoted member h through a fairlead e on the end of the arm d and through a fixed fairlead q on the underside of the fuselage. The tube is connected to a pressure-measuring instrument by a hose j. When the arm d is revolved the tube is either wrapped around the drum or unwrapped therefrom so that the static head is either raised or lowered. The motor c has a starting switch, and a limit switch o for stopping the motor when the tube is fully wound is operated by engagement of plunger n with the static head. Another limit switch k which stops the motor when the tube is fully unwound is operated by the member h which is pulled by the pipe to engage a plunger m and open the switch k. A friction-reducing pulley p is mounted in the fairlead q. If the motor should fail to function a releasable clutch may allow the static lead to be lowered by gravity.
