Abstract
696,395. Singeing threads. REYES, J. V. June 12, 1951 [July 8, 1950], No. 13882/51. Class 120(iii) [Also in Group XI] Threads are singed by heat produced by means of an electrical heating resistance in the form of a wire of metal or alloy lining the bottom and sides of a groove in a support of insulating or refractory material through which the thread passes. As shown, a singeing appliance comprises a block 10 provided with a groove 11 partially enclosed by flanges 12 and housing a wire 13, Fig. 4, doubled back and forth to form zigzag bends the plane of which is bent into U-form, and connected to terminals 15, 15<SP>1</SP>. The appliance is mounted on a plate 16 which may be fitted to a reeling machine, card-winder or balling machine, skein-winder, weft-winder, or like textile machine, and which carries guide pulleys 17, 18, 19, by means of which one or more turns of thread may be passed through the groove. The appliance is so positioned that the passage of the thread therethrough creates a draught to expel singed particles. A number of appliances may be connected in series and the heating effects regulated by means of a rheostat.
