696,222. Digital electric calculating apparatus. ELLIOTT BROS. (LONDON), Ltd. Aug. 3, 1951 [Aug. 4, 1950], No. 19612/50. Class 106 (i). [Also in Group XL (c)] The Figure shows a coincidence and anticoincidence circuit for a digital computer in which an output pulse is produced at the coincidence output " C when pulses from generators A and B are present simultaneously and an output pulse is produced at the " anticoincidence output " A/C when a pulse is present at only one of the generators A or B. The pulse generators A and B have each a low output impedance which may comprise an output transformer and D.C. restoring circuit as described in Specification 693,116, [Group XL (c)]. When the pulse generators A and B produce a pulse simultaneously the positivegoing terminals of the generators move in a positive direction so that diodes V3, V4 conduct but as load resistor R has a low impedance only a small voltage pulse appears at J. The negative-going terminals of generators A and B will also move in a negative direction and a negative output pulse will be produced at the high impedance load at " coincidence output " C. Thus an output pulse appears only at the " coincidence output " terminal C. When only one generator, say A, produces an output pulse, the negative terminal of that generator will be prevented from moving in a negative direction by the low impedance to earth via generator B, the positive-going terminal of which is prevented from moving negative to earth by its associated diode V2. Thus a positive pulse will be produced at the " anti-coincidence output " A/C.
