[Also in Group XXIII] A peripheral milling cutter h, Fig. 1, is rotatable in a head-stock g with its axis parallel to that of a bar f, along which the headstock can be displaced, extending above a transversely adjustable work-table c, journaled in slides d<SP>1</SP>, d<SP>2</SP> vertically displaceable in unison on columns a<SP>1</SP>, a<SP>2</SP>, and provided with means for angular displacement about its own axis. This means comprises a worm-gear j, k, Fig. 4, which enables fine depth-of-cut adjustments to be made, coarse adjustment being effected by rotation of screws e in engagement with the slides d<SP>1</SP>. d<SP>2</SP>. An extra fine adjustment may be obtained by disengaging the hand wheel m for the drive j, k and using an additional wormgear n, o. The headstock is displaced along the bar f by a motor i. A horizontal boring machine, Fig. 7, can be adapted to serve as a milling machine by mounting the bar f between the boring-spindle slide u and the rotary bearing slide w, the bar being rotated by the hand wheel operated by turning gear z<SP>1</SP> of the chuck y. A cup-type grinding wheel t may also be mounted on the headstock which is fitted with a spirit level to enable it to be set in a vertical position.
