695,259. Copy-turning. GOETZEWERKE F. GOETZE AKT.-GES. Dec. 13, 1951 [Dec. 14, 1950; June 8, 1951], No. 29239/51. Class 83 (iii). A copying lathe for turning non- circular parts 24 comprises a shaft 10 driven with the work and driving a pattern 22, a cam 11 fast on the shaft 10, and a transmission controlled by the cam 11 and interposed between the shaft 10 and the pattern so as alternately to accelerate and retard the pattern. The cam 11 is engaged by a follower 12 connected to a rocking member 14 which, through linkage 16, 17, oscillates a pinion 18 between driving bevels 19, 20. The connection between the link 16 and the member 14 is adjustable. The resultant motion of the pattern moves a tool slide 6 against weights or springs to produce the required profile such as is required on piston rings. By looking the follower in an inoperative position, the shape of the work may be controlled solely by the cam 22. In a modification, the additional motion is imposed by mounting the pattern 28, Fig. 5, on a helically-fluted member 29 and controlling its axial position by a bell-crank 12.
