Abstract

695,227. Mixing appliances. LEE, A., BINNINGTON, C. M., and CROSSLAND, G. April 30, 1952 [Jan. 31, 1951], No. 2386/51. The date June 28, 1950, was given under Section 53 of the Act. Class 86 A rotary agitator comprises a. shaft upon which is disposed a plate or disc having a plurality of tubular elements rigidly attached thereto and spaced around its periphery. As shown in Fig. 4, a shaft 16 carries at its lower end spaced discs 17, 18 each of which carries a set of three tubular elements 23 and 24 respectively, symmetrically disposed around its periphery and inclined at a small angle to the plane of the disc, the tubular elements 23 being spaced symmetrically in relation to the tubular elements 24. Upon rotation of the agitator currents of different directions are set up in the material under treatment to effect dispersion of the materials. Material flowing through the tubular elements 24 on the smaller disc 18 impinges upon the surface of the larger disc 17 whereby any agglomerate is disrupted. The shaft may carry one plate or disc, or more than two plates or discs and the tubular elements may be disposed in the plane of the plate or disc. The ends of the tubular elements may be normal to the longitudinal axis thereof or the leading edge of the tubular element may be oblique to the longitudinal axis.
