Abstract
695,114. Hinges. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Feb. 9, 1951 [Feb. 24, 1950], No. 4865/50. Class 65 (ii) [Also in Group XI] In a lighting fitting the carrier for a transparent bowl 2 is hinged to a canopy 1 by means of co-operating elements adapted to be separated from one another (so that the bowl can be completely removed) by relative movement of these elements along the axis of pivotal and abutment surfaces prevent such separation except when the carrier has been swung past'the position in which it would hang due to gravity. The carrier consists of a wire ring 7 of circular section extending around the undersurface of a flange 5 on the rim of the bowl. The ends of the wire are cranked to pass through vertical slots 9, 10 in a skirt 4 on the canopy and to form hinge pins 7a, 7b which enter a bore in a lug 8 on the outside of the skirt. External projections 12, 13 are formed on the outside of the skirt, their upper surfaces 12a, 13a being clear of the bore in the lug 8 and their opposed side surfaces 12c, 13c being aligned with the edges of the vertical slots in the canopy. These projections and the sides of the vertical slots prevent the hinge pins 7a, 7b from being withdrawn from the bore except when the ring has been swung to a position 7<SP>1</SP> in which the whole of the ring is above the upper surfaces of the projections.
