Abstract

694,814. Bearings. PLESSEY CO., Ltd. Feb. 5, 1952 [Feb. 5, 1951], No. 2787/51. Class 12 (i). The end bearings 1, 2 of a gear pump have adjacent flats 9 which are maintained in pressure contact with one another by resilient means which impart a turning moment to the bearings. The resilient means may comprise two preformed resilient rods 8, Fig. 3, which engage opposed pockets 7 in the bearings 1, 2, and when assembled the rods are subjected to elastic deformation and thus impose a turning moment on each bearing. In a modification, the pockets 18 of bearings 19, 20, Fig. 7, are arranged asymmetrically on one side of the centre line and a straight rod 21 of resilient material is inserted into the pockets. The rod 21 becomes deformed when the bearings are assembled as shown in Fig. 8.
