Abstract

694,574. Clockwork escapements. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES. Aug. 2, 1950 [Oct. 1, 1948]. No. 19347/50. Class 139. A time mechanism comprises an escapement wheel . driven from the movement train of the time mechanism, an escapement lever periodically and mechanically locking the escapement wheel and, with the interposition of a predetermined lost motion, moved backwards and forwards by a movement regulator and an energy storage means between the movement regulator and the escapement wheel which is loaded by the escapement wheel with movement of the latter relative to the escapement lever, and is unloaded to the movement regulator during the lost motion between the escapement lever and the movement regulator. In the embodiment described a pendulum 3 carries a. slotted permanent magnet 4 which co-operates successively with the teeth 2 of an escape wheel 1 of magnetic material and a pair .of stops 6 by which it effects rocking of the escapement lever or anchor 8 the pallets 7 of which alternately free and lock the escape wheel 1. In the middle part of a pendulum swing as the gap 5 in the magnet 4 moves towards the uppermost tooth 2 an impulse' is imparted to the magnet 4 and the pendulum 3 by the magnetic force between the said escape wheel tooth and the magnet. At the end of the swing a stop 6 moves the anchor 8 to free the escape wheel 1 and as the wheel rotates the magnetic energy storing means consisting of the magnet 4 and the teeth 2 is charged or loaded. In the next swing of the pendulum it receives an impulse asabove described when the energy storing means is unloaded.
