Abstract

694,499. Drying tubular fabrics. HICKLING, PENTECOST & CO., Ltd. May 4, 1951 [May 5, 1950], No. 11108/50. Class 34 (i) [Also in Group VIII] Tubular fabric 4 is passed over a stretching device and heated air is supplied to the exterior of the fabric, in the neighbourhood of the stretcher, so as to pass inwards. A cylindrical housing 1 is fixed to a support 2 and is divided by an annular partition 14 into parts 1b, 1c, and is inturned at its lower end 3 to form an inlet opening for the fabric. The upper part 1b contains a perforated cylinder 16 secured at its lower end to partition 14. There are also an upper ring 10 and lower ring 11 the upper having a groove to take a cover plate 12. A hot air inlet 17a communicates with the upper part of the box 1 and inside the cylinder 16 is a stretcher 5 comprising rings 8 joined on the inside by members 7. The fabric is threaded over the stretchers 5 and then passes upwardly to rollers 22 and take-up roller 23 or a folding device (not shown). Hot air supplied from a chamber 18 passes through pipe 17 to inlet 17a and the upper compartment 1b where it passes through gauze 16a and the cylinder 16 and through the fabric into the interior thereof whence it passes back through the fabric into compartment 1c and either to waste through opening 3 or through an outlet 21 for re-heating and re-circulation.
