694,015. Rotary regenerative heat-exchangers. AKTIEBOLAGET LJUNGSTROMS ANGTURBIN. Nov. 6, 1951 [Nov. 24, 1950], No. 25917/51. Class 64 (i) Relates to rotary regenerative heat-exchangers comprising a regenerative rotor disposed within a stationary casing which includes end plates having openings defining two flow channels 5, 6 of different c r o s s - sectional areas for the flow of gaseous media through the rotor, and separated by radially extending portions 3, 4 of the end plates. According to the invention, the rotor is supported by casing structure comprising three relatively angularly disposed arms, two of which (viz. 2a, 2b) are located above the plate portions 3, 4, the third arm 2c being located above the flow channel of greater cross-sectional area, viz. the channel 5. The arm 2c may pass through the hot gas channel in which case it may be provided with a jacket lined with heat insulating material and cooled by ambient air flowing between the jacket and the arm Fig. 5 (not shown). Alternatively, the arm 2c may be disposed at such a distance from the rotor that the gas channel may pass between the rotor and the arm so that a protective jacket is not required. The carrier arms may be hinged so that the relative cross-sectional areas of the flow channels 5, 6 may be adjusted.
