Abstract

Tetrachloroethylene is stabilized by the addition of lower nitroalkanes or chloro derivatives thereof, optionally with pre-treatment to remove some impurities. Examples describe the stabilization of samples of tetrachloroethylene, obtained by fractional distillation of a mixture of chlorinated products and with or without pre-treatment with caustic soda, and aniline, with 1-nitropropane, nitroethane, nitromethane, 2-chloro-2-nitropropane and 1-chloro-1-nitroethane; 2-nitropropane and 1-chloro-1-nitropropane are also specified.
