In a calculating-machine having a single total-taking key and a single subtotal-taking key for both positive and negative totals and subtotals, a symbol type carrier differentially positionable under the control of said keys, and ribbon shifting mechanism to cause negative totals and subtotals to be printed in a distinctive colour, as the ribbon shifting mechanism is operated, the symbol type carrier is given an additional setting movement to enable special symbols to be printed for negative totals and subtotals. The subject-matter of this Specification is fully disclosed in Specification 693,659 to which reference is made.
