[Class 100 (iv)] [Also in Group XIX] Locking-devices.-In a key-set cash register the item typewheels 88, Fig. 6, are carried by a shaft 94 slidable in vertical guide slots to enable the wheels to be raised towards a stationary platen 11. This is effected by the clerks' keys, depression of either of which rocks an associated lever 103, Fig. 9. A cam slot 113 in the upper arm of the rocked lever co-operates with a pin 112 to rock a shaft 108, thus through arms 109, Fig. 6, raising the type-wheels to impress the record strip. The type-wheels for the amounts and transactions are set by differential sectors 79. The clerks' type-wheel is normally in position to print the character " B," but is rocked upon the depression of the A " clerks' key through a lever 97 connected to the lever 103 associated with that key. The record strip 115 passes from a supply roll 179<1>, under the platen 111, to a storage roll 184 advanced step-by-step by the operating bar. An inkribbon 116 carried by reversing spools 185, 191 passes over the record strip and beneath the platen. To facilitate access to the record strip, the platen and ink-ribbon are carried by a frame 175, Fig. 6, hinged on studs 177 but normally held in the position shown by a latch. Lifting the frame locks totalizer wheels 121A, 121B by holding aligning bails 240 in engagement therewith. Upon the depression of a total key followed by the depression of the operating bar, the lever 103, Fig. 9, associated with the total key, is rocked, and a cam segment rigid therewith shifts both totalizers outwardly to impress the record strip against platens 180, Fig. 6, carried by the frame 175. To enable the totals thus printed to become visible under a transparent plate, the strip is advanced by a knob on the spindle of the storage roll. This mechanism forms the subject-matter of Specification 497,308.
