Abstract
512,424. Cash registers. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. March 1, 1938, No. 6418. Convention date, April 7, 1937. [Class 106 (i)] [Also in Group XVI] Column-spacing; hammer-impression arrangements. In a cash register or similar accounting machine having a number of groups of type elements, the impression means for one group are actuated at each machineoperation while the impression means for another group or groups are selectively actuated by being coupled directly to the constantly operated impression means. The machine is provided with a single row of type-wheels, Fig. 2, comprising duplicate groups 11, 12 of amount typewheels and a group 13 of account number and other typewheels. The printing-hammer 17 for the last-mentioned group, is actuated at each machine operation, the amount printing- hammers 15, 16 being alternatively operable under the control of a lever or keys to select the column of the record strip in which it is desired to print the amount. The printing-hammer 17 is fast on a shaft 14 that is connected through an arm 20 to cam means whereby the shaft and hammer are rocked at each machine operation. As shown in Fig. 3, the amount hammer 16 is coupled to the constantly operated hammer 17 by a coupling slide 44 pivoted on shaft 14 and forked to embrace studs 47, 49 projecting one from each hammer. A slot in the left-hand end of the coupling slide embraces a stud 42 on a slide 40 pin-and-slot connected to an arm 36 of a selecting-shaft 34. Clockwise rocking of the shaft 34 by a handle or key shifts the slides 40, 44 to the position shown in Fig. 4, wherein hammer 16 is uncoupled from hammer 17 and locked by the engagement of the nose 45 of the coupling slide beneath the shaft 34. The clockwise rocking of the shaft 34, through an arm 35 and slides 38, 43, also serves to couple the amount hammer 15 to the arm 20 of shaft 14 to enable printing to be effected from the other group of amount type wheel.
