Abstract

472,497. Memorandum appliances. STANDARD REGISTER CO. March 23, 1936, No. 8695. Convention date, March 21, 1935. [Class 16] [Also in Group XVI] In a feed-roller or platen for typewriters and other recording-machine such as addressing- machines and autographic registers of the kind having pins which are automatically moved into and out of engagement with perforations in the stationery, means is provided for causing each pin, while in engagement with a perforation, to move slightly forwards in the direction of rotation of the platen or feed-roller and thereby assist in registering the stationery. Means may also be provided for causing each pin to move slightly rearwards while being disengaged from a perforation, disengagement being thereby facilitated. The platen 10, Fig. 2, is provided at each end with a drum having apertures 20 receiving pins 22 each formed with a notch 34 engaging a stationary cam 30, and a skew-groove 28 engaging a pair of pins 26 on the drum. During rotation of the platen, the pins are projected and rocked slightly forwards, and are then retracted and rocked slightly rearwards. The cams 30 are secured to a sleeve 40 which is angularly adjustable in the manner described in Specification 408,125, [Group XVI]. In the platen 10, Fig. 9, each pin 54 is formed with cranks 58, 60, Fig. 13, engaging stationary cams 62, 74 respectively, the crank 60 co-operating also with a radial slot 72 in a stationary disc 70. A spring-garter 80 on the cranks 60 maintains engagement with the cams. During rotation of the platen, the pins are projected by means of the cam 62, rocked slightly forwards and backwards by means of a hump on the cam 74, and retracted. The cams 62, 74 and disc 70 are secured to an angularly adjustable sleeve 66. In an alternative construction, the pins are provided, on opposite sides, with cranks engaging stationary grooved-cams.
