Abstract

693,644. Processing photographic films. ASTOR, C. W. R. Dec. 7, 1951 [Dec. 8, 1950], No. 30115/50. Class 98 (ii) Photographic film processing apparatus comprises a tank for containing liquid, and a roller mechanism and mounting therefor located within the tank, said roller mechanism being adapted to draw photographic strip material through the tank and having a driving spindle, one end of which projects outside the tank and carries a gear-wheel which is adapted to engage with a fixed driving gear outside the tank, the roller mechanism and its mounting being bodily removable from and replaceable in the tank without the necessity for fastening or unfastening any screws or the like. The apparatus shown comprises a tank 10 in which two plates 11, spaced apart by members 12, 13, are removably mounted. The upper portion 11a of each plate is enlarged and the lower edge thereof engages in a slot 10a in the top of the tank to prevent lateral movement of the plates. Spindles 16, 17, Fig. 3, carrying rollers 14 and 15, pass through the plates 11 and carry gears which mesh with a gear 26. Spindle 16 projects through a slot in the tank and also carries a gear 20 which is adapted to engage a fixed driving-gear (not shown). Accommodated in slots 11b of each plate are spindles carrying rollers 21 disposed on each side of the rollers 14, 15 and pressed into engagement therewith by elastic bands entrained around pulleys 25 mounted at each end of each of the spindles carrying the rollers 21. Thus when the driving gear is rotated the central rollers 14, 15 are rotated in one sense and the rollers 21 in the opposite sense so that a film can be fed through the liquid in the tank. Grooves 11c in each plate serve as film guides.
