Abstract

729,791. Centrifugal separators. CENTEMERI, M. Jan. 9, 1953, No. 689/53. Class 23. A centrifuge for drying unspun cotton &c. comprises a perforated container 1 which has a deflecting plate 4 and is enclosed by a cover 3. Endless bands 6 are disposed on rollers 5, 51 within the container and comprise perforated, rectangular metal plates which constitute a drum interconnected by links and reinforced, if so desired. The bands are moved by pawls 7 which are reciprocated by a differential mechanism 8, 9, 10 and engage teeth formed on one edge of said bands. The material is discharged against a wall 12 and fed by rollers 13 on to a conveyer belt. If desired, the bands may be flexible and pass over a toothed roller 5 which is driven by the pawls. The gear 8 has an inclined surface or an inclined groove in which runs a roller fixed to the gear 9 in order to effect lifting of the pawls. In a modification, Fig. 3, the bands 6 are driven by pinions 16, 18, a disc 9 and pinions 9<SP>1</SP>, 8 which have a different number of teeth and engage a pinion 10; the disc 9 being provided with flat spiral teeth 1 which engage the pinion 18. The material is discharged through a hole 14 provided, if desired, with a vertical deflecting plate. Alternatively the material is fed through said hole by spatules which rotate in the direction of the container or by conical rollers, which may be driven.
