Abstract
693,558. Electro-deposition of zinc. POOR & CO., and ACME STEEL CO. June 14, 1949 [June 19, 1948], No. 15813/49. Class 41. An acid zinc electro-plating bath comprises zinc in a soluble form dissolved in an acidic aqueous liquid having a lead content below 5 milligrams per litre and containing a gluconate and an alkylated naphthalene sulphonate dissolved in the bath. The bath may contain 50 to 150 grams per litre of zinc and may have a pH value between 1.0 and 5.5. The gluconate may be zinc gluconate prepared as described in Specification 693,592, [Group IV (b)], or may be gluconic acid obtained by the oxidation of glucose. The preferred sulphonate is isopropyl naphthalene sulphonic acid sodium salt. The current density may range from 2 amperes per square foot to 920 amperes per square foot. Specification 693,557 is referred to.
