A buff section for assembly on a spindle side by side with other similar sections to form a buffing wheel comprises a relatively stiff centre 10 surrounded by an annulus of buffing material 14, one side of the section having axially extending bearing elements 22 at a different radial location from similar elements 24 on the other side so that when the sections are assembled with like sides facing one another as shown in Fig. 3 a relatively distant spacing of the sections is obtained and, when unlike sides are facing one another, as shown in Fig. 4 a relatively close spacing is obtained. To provide closer spacing of the sections when assembled with unlike sides facing one another, the radial separation of the two series of projections 22 and 24 is decreased so that only a partial overlap between them is possible. The projections 22 may be slightly separated circumferentially so that their engagement with a like series of projections occurs at points offset from the tips to prevent relative circumferential displacement between sections.
