Class 100(i) [Also in Group VIII] The feed rollers 1, 2 of a mechanism for cutting sheets of variable length from a roll or strip of material, for delivery to a parcelling, printing or other machine, are driven through a one-revolution clutch 10 on a main shaft 11, a chain drive 8 and a dog-clutch 6, the clutch being held engaged by springs 29 until, after the desired length of sheet has been fed, it is disengaged by a lever 18 rocked by a face cam 20 on the main shaft; the cam comprises two parts with side projections 21a, 22a which can be angularly adjusted relative to each other to extend or decrease the lift period of the cam and thus vary the period during which the drive is disengaged. The rollers are geared together and have grooves 2a for a metal comb which prevents the material adhering to the rollers. The onerevolution clutch 10 is controlled from the parcelling or printing machine so that the sheets are delivered in synchronism with the operation of the machine and a disc brake 27 prevents overrun of the rollers after the clutch is disengaged. At the end of each revolution of the shaft 11, a pivoted cutting blade 35 is lowered to cut the stationary material against a fixed blade 39 by a projection 32 on a cam 31 actuating a lever 34 having a roller and slot connection 37 with the blade 35. The Provisional Specification also describes adjustment of the cams by a screw pin engaging an aligned pair of vernier-spaced holes in each cam.
