Abstract

692,730. Opening containers by tearing. DAVIES, H. C. Feb. 25, 1952 [Nov. 24, 1950], No. 28819/50. Class 66 A container 1 incorporates a rip-wire 4 of stranded construction lying in a groove or channel 2 and retained therein by a guide plate 3 secured to the top portion 11 of the container. A channel 9 is formed in the guide plate 3 to register with the channel 2 in the container wall. The rip-wire 4 enters and leaves the channel 2 via a hole 10 and one end is soldered to the outside of the container at 5, the other end being secured to a handle element 6, Figs. 1 and 2, (not shown) which is retained flush with the container by soldering as at 8. After severing the container along the channel 2 the top portion may be replaced as a lid and the guide plate 3 facilitates this function; a suitable adhesive tape may be used to join the severed portions of the container.
