Abstract

1,037,495. Opening packages. TEPAR A.G. March 22, 1965 [March 20, 1964], No. 12055/65. Heading B8C. To assist in opening a package 3 (Fig. 1), a strip 8 is attached to a triangular flap 6 which projects from the end 4 of the package. In the embodiment described the package is made by transversely sealing and severing a tube of material and then shaping it to parallelepipedic form so that the transverse seals 5 lie across the top and bottom of the package (Fig. 13, not shown) and extend along the upper surface of the triangular flap 6. The strip 8 is preferably secured to the underside of the flap 6 and may cover a line of weakness 7 (Fig. 1), consisting of perforations which only partly penetrate the flap, so that as the strip 8 is pulled, the end portion of the triangular flap tears away, to give a pouring spout. Alternatively, a circular or V-shaped orifice which is provided in the underneath surface of the flap 6 is exposed as a much smaller strip 8 is pulled away. A vent hole 11 (Fig. 12, not shown) may be provided in the top of the package and covered by an extension on the strip 8. The strip 8 may be adhesively secured, or heat sealed, to the side 3 of the package and provided with a gripping tab 9. The strip 8 may also be made of double sided tape so that the flap 6 is held flat against the side 3 of the package.
