692,684. Cord and pulley gearing. - STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Jan. 4, 1952 [Jan. 15, 1951], No. 346/52. Class 80 (i). [Also in Group XL (c)] A device for operating tuning means in communication equipment comprises two pulleys 10 and 12, fixed to each other and which are rotatably mounted on a carriage 5. The carriage 5 is moved along guide bar 7 by cord drive 3 which is fixed to the carriage at 4 and is driven by control knob 1. A cord 9, fixed at both ends, encircles pulley 10, and a, cord 13 passes around pulleys 12, 15 and 14 and pulley 16 fixed to the shaft 17 of the tuning means which has to be rotated. If pulleys 10 and 12 were the same size, rotation of knob 1 would move pointer 6 but not the tuning means on shaft 17. A desired ratio between the movements of the pointer and the tuning means may be achieved by making pulley 12 proportionately larger or smaller than pulley 10. An indicator disc may be fitted to pulley 10 to provide a more accurate tuning indication.
