Abstract

692,521. Winding yarns. ABBOTT WORSTED MILLS. Inc. April 6, 1951 [April 7, 1950]. No. 8029/51. Class 120(ii) In an automatic yarn-winding machine having a plurality of winding units each including a centre 24 for rotatably holding a winding bobbin and a thread guide 23a located beneath the bobbin so that thread approaches the bobbin by running upwardly from beneath and through the guide 23a, after a wound bobbin has been discharged downwardly from the winding centre, a thread-engaging member 160 on each winding unit moves the thread extending between the thread guide 23a and the discharged bobbin B upwardly and in front of the winding centre 24 so that it may be engaged by a fresn bobbin B<SP>1</SP> to be wound. The machine described is similar, generally, to that described in Specification 615,440, and comprises on each winding unit a wheel 151 furnished with a return coil spring. Each wheel is provided with a number of teeth which engage, during the mov,ement of each winding unit around the machine, with astationary rack 170. The thread extending between the doffed bobbin B which is being slid along the polished plate 32 by a plate 35 carried by the winding unit, is contacted by the hook 160 on the wheel 151 to move one leg of the loop of thread extending from the hook so that it will lie across the centre 24 while the other leg of the loop is wrapped upon the periphery of the centre 24 which is dished so that it will temporarily retain it. The positioning of the leg across the centre is aided by a stationary plough-plate 53. When the fresh bobbin B<SP>1</SP> is in position the thread between the bobbin B and the bobbin B' is cut by a blade 60. The guide 107f for the thread ascending from the supply package is carried by an arm 107 which, upon thread exhaustion, moves to raise the brushes taking current from stationary conductor bars to stop the individual motor of the winding unit.
