Abstract
840,963. Counting-apparatus. DEERING MILLIKEN RESEARCH CORPORATION. July 23, 1956 [July 22, 1955], No. 22762/56. Class 106 (1). A counter for counting the number of knots tied by the operator of a yarn-winding machine by counting the number of machine starts is provided with means for preventing the registration of a start during predetermined periods immediately following the stopping or starting of the machine. As shown, a main power switch 36 is normally closed to energize a delay relay 35 which keeps a power supply contact 34 closed. When the machine is inoperative, a contact 25 is open and on starting the machine, the contact 25 closes to energize a relay 43, thereby changing over a contact 45. A motor M is thus energized to rotate slowly in an anticlockwise direction a shaft 56 carrying cams 39, 49, 59. The cam 59 is then operative to complete a holding circuit for the motor by lowering of an arm 61 and the cam 39 is operative to lower an arm 31 thereby energizing the coil of an electromagnetic counter 21. The cam 39 has a reduced radius portion corresponding to a four-second interval so that should the operator stop the machine in order to tie a knot in a broken yarn, a count cannot fail to be registered when he starts the machine again. The arms 31, 61 are raised approximately simultaneously to de-energize the counter coil and open the motor holding circuit, the motor continuing to run until the cam 49 raises the arm 51 out of engagement with the contact 52. If machine is now stopped thereby opening the switch 25, a circuit for the motor is completed via contacts 46, 53 and the motor runs until the arm 51 is lowered to engage the contact 52, the registration of a start being inhibited during this period since the arm 31 is raised, thereby preventing a " start " being incorrectly registered by closure of the switch 25 during the period of coming to rest of the yarn take-up package of the machine. The delay relay 35 is of a type which cannot be re-actuated until a predetermined period has elapsed after de-actuation, thereby preventing a count being registered while the arm 31 is lowered by interrupting the power circuit. An arrangement is described for connecting selectively a small number of counters to a large number of winding-machines in different combinations, the delay period due to the reduced portion of the cam 39 preventing, for two machines connected to the same counter, the registration of a second count from a second machine for a predetermined period after registration of a first count by a first machine.
