Abstract

692,517. Crank-shafts. MAYBACH, K. Jan. 22, 1951 [Oct, 4, 1950], No. 1658/51. Class 80 (ii). A one-piece crank-shaft, for an internal combustion engine, comprises disc-like webs 1, on which are provided bearing surfaces 12 with flanges 22 for rollers 28 in cages 29 exteriorly supported in unflanged race-rings 30, the bearing surfaces 12 and flanges 22 being autogenously or inductively surface hardened. Lubricant holes 44, 45, 46 are fed through passages within the crank-shaft, and each of the sides of the discs 1 is formed so that part of its surface has the shape of part of a flat cone whose axis is the axis of the attached crank-pin. The diameter of a circle traced round the outside of the rollers 28 is the same or slightly larger than that of the outer circle traced by the crank-pins round the crank-shaft.
